Hi Natalie,

First of all apologies for contacting you through your reading/writing site but keyed in your name from some old letters from you and your old classmates at your infant/junior school in Middlesbrough did for me when I left your school back in Feb 1987 when you were in Year 3 and I was your Teaching Assistant.

I am keen to know the name of the school as am applying for teaching posts in London after having a very chequered career!

My name then was Mrs Brighty and I sed to help you with Art and English. I still have your old letter amongst all your class of Year 3.

You have certainly made a good name for yourself as a journalist - well done!

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Thanks

Ms Rose Bryan

PS What is roller derby??

'Amy and Jordan' by Mark Beyer. Probably won't be in the January sales but there's some of Beyer's co-dependent dysfunctional couple of cursed jerks in a book called 'Graphic Fiction'. That's a big hardback book packed full of awesome artistic and underground comics.

I've read two books by Beyer. 'Agony' is one long, dreamlike series of truly unfortunate events (at least none of Lemony Snickett's protagonists get fired, decapitated, and eaten by a fish within the first 5 pages). 'Amy and Jordan' is da bomb though, a compendium of exquisitely weird stand alone comic strips that explore character and form within their tiny spaces. There are some genuinely desperate elements but the main effect is charming and astonishing gloom-fun.
